Is autonomy in education possible?

Jon Stolk thinks so : autonomous learning

The Authoritarian Method Assumption:  "The student cannot be trusted with his own learning."
- Carl Rogers, Freedom to Learn (1969)

If students can't be trusted with their own learning, we're forced to decide for them. We're forced to make their choices. Yet we expect them to make critical decisions when they enter the real world. Without any practice.

"All the evidence that we have indicates that it is reasonable to assume in practically every human being, that there is an active will toward health, an impulse toward growth."
- Abraham Maslow
