Empathy

This is the first news image that managed to elicit a massive degree of public sympathy for the migrants. It took a dead child, washed up on the beach. As human behaviour goes, this is par for the course. However, the EU bureaucracy missed the point, and still haven't gotten a grip. Institutional, or collective abuse is the worst form. It seems everyone feels so guilty it becomes intolerable to accept responsibility, and a lot easier to look the other way - or have another meeting, or delegate to yet another committee.
We all know history does have a habit of repeating itself. Now what memory does it bring back for you? And for Angela Merkel? In Brussels the champagne still flows.
